Amatuer Rocketry is an activity that is best pursued after much research and preparation. ShadowAero advocates an approach to amateur rocketry that emphasizes individual responsibility, both for your own safety and an enhanced understanding of the physics at work in your projects.
ShadowAero -DOES- endorse membership in such well established organizations such as the RRS (Reaction Research Society, http://www.rrs.org), where gentleman scientists are present to instruct, assist, and share in the -real- accomplishment of constructing your own rocketry project with full knowledge of the physics at work. Such new organizations as IEAS and others are blossoming in this vein, and are worth investigation. John Wickman's space-rockets.com also has solid information on the pursuit of these activities.
See flyrockets.com for more information on launches in your area.
